Mark E. Bloedow, Executive & Artistic Director
Dr. Mark Bloedow, DMA, is the founding Executive Director of Maestro Productions, Inc., a Madison-based non-profit community music organization. As the organization's Artistic Director, he conducts the Madison Community Chorus and Ringing Badgers Handbell Ensemble. In addition, Mark is the Music Director & Organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Executive Director of Handbell Week, and owner of Midwest Music, all located in Madison, Wisconsin. He served eight years as Assistant Professor of Music at Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, including ensemble leadership as Director of Handbell Activities, conducting the Alleluia Ringers touring ensemble and Chapel Ringers, as well as Developer and Music Director of the Concordia Civic Chorale community chorus. Mark also previously served as the Artistic Director of Madison's Choral Arts Society Chorale and Music Director of Madison Area Concert Handbells.
In 1989 Mark founded Maestro Productions, Inc. as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit community music organization in the Fox Cities, WI. Under his leadership the organization evolved to enjoy a year round scheduled of performances in theaters, churches, schools, and other hospitality venues in Northeastern Wisconsin. Maestro moved to Madison in 2002, and relaunched its community music ensembles and collaborative performances in 2014 with a holiday performance at the Middleton Performing Arts Center, Middleton, WI. The leaders and participants of the organization continue to create and offer inclusive community-based music education, talent development, and seasonal performances in Madison, Dane County, and Southern Wisconsin.
Mark earned his Bachelor's degree in Music Education from the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh where he graduated with Outstanding Senior recognition. He received his Master's degree in Music from Concordia University Wisconsin, Mequon, and served as an adjunct professor in various roles, including conducting Kammerchor touring choir, before joining the faculty full-time in 2016, as well as teaching Handbell Music Methods in the Master of Church Music graduate program. Dr. Bloedow received his Doctor of Music Arts (DMA) in Music Education from Boston University; his dissertation is "Perspectives on Hospitality and Transformative Learning for Community Music Participants."
Mark's professional involvement includes being active with the Madison area Association of Church Musicians (ACM), having served the organization for five years in key leadership roles including President of ACM and Dean of the American Guild of Organists Madison Chapter. He served on the Handbell Musicians of America Area 7 Board as the Wisconsin South Sub Area Chair. In addition, Mark performs as an organ recitalist with previous appearances in Wisconsin and Nebraska. His handbell and organ works are published by Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis, Missouri; MorningStar Music Publishers, Fenton, Missouri; and Midwest Music, Madison, Wisconsin.
