The Commemoration Years: 2004 & 2007

Friends of Borghild Jacobson, an informal network of persons interested in the creative works of Borghild Jacobson, recognized 2004 and 2007 as the Bordhild Jacobson Commemoration Years. The goal of the project was to honor Borghild by using her music for congregational worship and concert performances during 2004 and 2007.

The focus: 2004 and 2007
The year 2004 marked the 10th Anniversary of Borghild's passing to life eternal (cancer, June 16, 1994) and the 10th Anniversary of the Reformation Festival at Washington National Cathedral, a gathering which featured her signature hymn, "This My Church Shall Be" as the theme hymn (October 30, 1994). The year 2007 marked the 25th Anniversary of the writing of "This My Church Shall Be" (in Ann Arbor, 1982).

The guiding philosophy
Borghild Jacobson wrote her music for the glory of God. The efforts of the Friends planning group continues to be centered on that same principle, seeking to encourage the use of her music to reach out to people, bringing them the message of Jesus Christ. Her hymn, "This My Church Shall Be," eloquently expresses a genuine appreciation for the life and vitality of the church. This hymn and others are her lasting gifts to the church universal. We can honor her and further her intention to nurture the Kingdom of God by using her hymns to share the gospel message through music ministry.

At the Reformation Festival at Washington National Cathedral the service bulletin described Borghild as "one of those many servants of God who made music and poetry so that we might glimpse that hope of perfection which will be ours as we stand before the glory of God." These words continue to encourage us to expand the outreach of the message embodied in her creative and inspiring works.
